a song in your heart

This exhibition brings together a community of ceramic artists whose lives, practices, and vernaculars are as varied as the clay they share. They are teachers and students, business owners and professionals, immigrants and life‑long residents, self‑taught makers and formally trained sculptors. What unites them is less a singular aesthetic than a devotion to making with earth — the pressure of the palm, the rhythm of the wheel, the improvisations of hand building, and the alchemy of fire and glaze. Beneath these gestures runs a strong desire for artistic expression in the language of clay: each piece a song, a stanza from the maker’s heart waiting to be heard.

The works in this room — from functional vessels to objects made primarily for aesthetic or narrative purposes — retain fingerprints, scars, and spontaneous accidents that map their making. Others rework tradition through new forms, hybrid techniques, or collaborative productions that fold multiple hands into a single object. Together they suggest that clay is both deeply personal and profoundly social. A Song in Your Heart is both celebration and proposition: craft and contemporary art are not separate spheres but overlapping practices that flourish when people gather to exchange techniques, stories, and support. We invite you to slow down, listen for the songs embedded in clay, attend to traces of touch and time, and consider how a shared love of clay shapes objects — and the communities that make them.
